Google’s willingness to use their online dominance to block Canadians’ access to news only underscores the pressing need for Bill C-18. The bill’s intent has always been to ensure that Canadian news organizations have a fair opportunity to negotiate with digital giants on the value they derive from news content on their platforms. Google’s recent actions show that they have no inclination to play fair.
