Six Aboriginal Directors Join TV Training Program
The National Screen Institute (NSI) – Canada, in association with APTN, has chosen six directors for the director phase of the NSI Storytellers program, designed to develop Aboriginal creative talent. The directors are: Adam Garnet Jones and Michelle Latimer (Toronto); Tracey Deer (Kahnawake, Quebec); Cameron Lizotte (Saskatoon); Marie Clements (Galiano Island, B.C.) and Lori Lewis (Quathiaski Cove, B.C.). The program provides all six with an intensive training week with industry experts in Winnipeg. The second phase will see three working as interns on a western-based TV series destined for Canadian broadcast. NSI Storytellers began training Aboriginal writers and producers last fall. Jean LaRose, APTN CEO, notes in a release that the service is pleased “with the training that NSI is providing Aboriginal content creators and proud to partner with them to develop this unique program.” The many private and public sponsors of NSI Storytellers 2007/08 include APTN and CTV/CHUM.
