In its report Reflecting Canadians - Best Practices for Cultural
Diversity in Private Television, the Task Force for Cultural
Diversity on Television also identified the need to advance cultural
diversity initiatives through an industry-wide approach, which fully
engages the non-regulated segment of the industry.
The Task Force noted that while broadcasters can act as a catalyst
for change, it is not possible to be fully effective without equal
commitment to diversity objectives, and on-going cooperation and
participation from industry stakeholders including producers, actors,
directors, writers, funding agencies or other bodies.
Recognizing the importance of having industry sectors cooperate
with each other on diversity initiatives, the Task Force recommended
11 industry initiatives targeted primarily at encouraging partnerships
and ensuring on-going communication amongst industry stakeholders
in order to advance the state of diversity within the broadcasting
industry.
