| for immediate release The Economist’s Executive Editor, Dr. Daniel Franklin
Ottawa, October 30, 2008 - As Opening Keynote Speaker at the CAB 2008 Convention, Dr. Daniel Franklin, Executive Editor of The Economist, will deliver the Canadian Premiere of the magazine’s predictions on financial, political and social trends for "The World in 2009". Dr Franklin’s address is scheduled for 8:45 am, Monday, November 3rd. A member of the magazine’s top editorial team, Franklin has acted as head of operations in Europe, America and Asia, and has more than 23 years’ experience observing, analyzing and forecasting global economies. He has written extensively on East-West trade issues, has acted as Europe Editor, Britain Editor and Washington Bureau Chief, and is responsible for providing intellectual leadership across The Economist Group. Just prior to Dr. Franklin's opening keynote, CRTC Chair Konrad von Finckenstein will address the CAB Convention delegates at 8:15 am, also on November 3rd, only a few days after the release on October 30th of the Commission’s decision in the Specialty and Pay/BDU/Conventional TV regulatory framework hearing. Registration for media accreditation at the CAB Convention is being accepted until Wednesday, October 31st. The Canadian Association of Broadcasters is the national voice of Canada’s private broadcasters, representing the vast majority of Canadian programming services, including private radio and television stations, networks, specialty, pay and pay-per-view services. The goal of the CAB is to represent and advance the interests of Canada’s private broadcasters in the social, cultural and economic fabric of the country.
