Ottawa, November 4, 2008 – The CAB this morning held its Community Service Awards Breakfast, part of the Gold Ribbon Awards and an event that honours private broadcasters’ outstanding records of supporting their communities. The celebration is part of the 82nd annual CAB Convention, being held November 2-4 at the Westin Hotel, Ottawa. The 2008 Gold Ribbon Award for Community Service by an Individual Broadcaster was presented to Ken Shaw, CTV News Toronto National Editor and Weekday Anchor, as announced in a previous CAB release. A total of 403 submissions were received for the 2008 Gold Ribbon Awards. These awards are among the most prestigious in the Canadian broadcasting industry, and recognize outstanding productions in radio, television, specialty and pay and pay-per-view services, and community service. The Canadian Association of Broadcasters is the national voice of Canada’s private broadcasters, representing the vast majority of Canadian programming services, including private radio and television stations, networks, specialty, pay and pay-per-view services. The goal of the CAB is to represent and advance the interests of Canada’s private broadcasters in the social, cultural and economic fabric of the country.
