CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK: Toronto, March 11-14, 2009 Kreesha Turner, Addictiv and Lights Ottawa, December 11, 2008 - Canada's hottest music stars will be honoured at the 2009 Canadian Radio Music Awards (CRMA). This prestigious gala luncheon has a reputation for spotlighting up and coming rookies like Avril Lavigne, Nelly Furtado, Nickelback, Sum 41, and State of Shock. The tradition continues with Age of Daze, Crash Parallel, Lights, and Jaydee Bixby slated to perform. The Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) presents the 12th Annual Canadian Radio Music Awards on Friday, March 13th at 12:30 pm at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, as part of the Canadian Music Week celebrations. At this year’s ceremony, April Wine will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award to commemorate their induction into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame. Nominees for this year’s Songwriters’ Association of Canada Song of the Year Award are Hedley (For the Nights I Can’t Remember), Finger Eleven (I’ll Keep your Memory Vague), Avril Lavigne (Hot), Kreesha Turner (Don’t Call me Baby) and Kardinal Offishall (Dangerous). Again this year, the CRMA Fans’ Choice Award will be presented. Radio listeners from across the country can vote online for their favourite radio artist at the Canadian Music Week website (www.cmw.net). This year's Fans' Choice nominees are Hedley, Finger Eleven, Kreesha Turner, State of Shock and Theory of a Deadman. CRMA nominees include artists who have hit the Canadian charts for the first time and who have achieved top airplay in different formats based on radio “spins”, as recorded by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) in 2008. Votes cast by music directors, program directors and on-air personalities determine the winners. Two additional non-voting awards will also be presented at this year’s ceremony: The FACTOR Breakthrough Award for top airplay for a new FACTOR supported artist; and The Chart Topper Award for top overall airplay. The Canadian Association of Broadcasters is the national voice of Canada’s private broadcasters, representing the vast majority of Canadian programming services, including private radio and television stations, networks, specialty, pay and pay-per-view services. The goal of the CAB is to represent and advance the interests of Canada’s private broadcasters in the social, cultural and economic fabric of the country.
